چکیده

Higher levels of integration have led to a generation of integrated circuits for which power dissipation and reliability are major design concerns. In CMOS circuits, both of these problems are directly related to the extent of circuit switching activity. The average number of transitions per second at a circuit node is a measure of switching activity thit has been called the transition density. This paper presents a statisticil simuiation technique to estimate individual node transition densities in combinational logic circuits. The strength of this approach is that the desired accuracy and confidence canbe specified up-front by the user. Another key feature is the classification of nodes into two categories: regularand low-density nodes. Regular-density nodes are certified with user-specified percentage eruor and confidence levels. Low-density nodes are certified with an absolute error, with the same confidence. This speeds convergence while sacrificing percentage accuracy only on nodes which contribute little to power dissipation and have few reliability problems.

Test Power Reduction by Simultaneous Don’t Care Filling and Ordering of Test Patterns Considering Pattern Dependency

Estimating and minimizing the maximum power dissipation during testing is an important task in VLSI circuit realization since the power value affects the reliability of the circuits. Therefore during testing a methodology should be adopted to minimize power consumption. Test patterns generated with –D 1 option of ATALANTA contains don’t care bits (x bits). By suitable filling of don’t cares can...

Spice Compatible Model for Multiple Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Application in Transient Analysis of VLSI Circuits

An SPICE compatible model for multiple coupled nonuniform lossless transmission lines (TL's) is presented. The method of the modeling is based on the steplines approximation of the nonuniform TLs and quasi-TEM assumptions. Using steplines approximation the system of coupled nonuniform TLs is subdivided into arbitrary large number of coupled uniform lines (steplines) with different characteristi...

Efficient statistical approach to estimate power considering uncertain properties of primary inputs

| Power dissipation in CMOS circuits is heavily dependent on the signal properties of the primary inputs. Due to uncertainties in speciication of such properties, the average power should be speciied between a maximum and a minimum possible value. Due to the complex nature of the problem, it is practically impossible to use traditional power estimation techniques to determine such bounds. In th...
